As part of a series of activities to mark the international day of zero tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), the youth Dialogue event held on the 8th of February 2017 at the Chelsea hotel Abuja. The event was to have 150 young people between the ages of 18 and 29 together to discuss how to join the campaign to end FGM. The event featured an educative presentation from UNFPA delivered by Nkiru Igbokwe a gender specialist representing the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); A panel discussion, film show, and General discussions on how young people could serve as the final stop of this deadly practice; a film show; and lastly a knowledge test on the subject “FGM/C”- this was an open floor/general discussion session for attendees who shared their views on what Female Genital Mutilation is.
The event was attended by 139 young people between the ages of 18 and 29. This number consists of 72 females and 67 males. This number is not inclusive of other attendees mostly from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of women, Ministry Of Youth and Sports Development who didn’t register and are mostly beyond the mentioned age.
