The YouthHubAfrica Social Impact Academy (SIA) was designed as a strategic response to the growing need for skilled professionals in Nigeria’s non-profit sector. Despite a surge in interest among young Nigerians to work within civil society, the sector remains underdeveloped due to limited resources, insufficient training opportunities, and a shortage of structured mentorship platforms. The SIA aimed to bridge this gap by equipping emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive sustainable development and social change.
Implemented over a six-week period in early 2025, the program featured a competitive selection process, a two-week intensive fellowship with expert-led sessions, and a final project presentation and graduation ceremony. Core modules included leadership, governance, media engagement, proposal writing, project planning, and monitoring and evaluation. Fellows also developed practical social impact projects under guided mentorship.
Through a blended learning approach, combining in-person classes and virtual support, participants engaged in collaborative assignments and real-world problem solving. The program culminated in the development of actionable projects addressing various societal challenges. Graduates left the Academy with enhanced technical skills, strengthened professional networks, and increased capacity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development landscape.
The Social Impact Academy successfully demonstrated how structured, youth-focused capacity-building initiatives can nurture a new generation of nonprofit leaders committed to social transformation.
