MalalaFund Joint Advocacy Project on Girl Child Education – Election Strategy (JAG)

Every child has the right to safe quality education yet globally, 130 Million Girls are not in school while in Nigeria Girls account for about 60% of its 10 million out-of-school children.

With support from Malala Fund, YHA and other partners across Nigeria are working to engage decision-makers to recognize and prioritize girls’ education through a gender-transformative education system.

During the last general elections in Nigeria and over the years, it was observed that a lower commitment from those contesting for public offices to provide gender-responsive education policies, programs, and budgeting for girl child education. In line with the objectives of the Malala Fund, a 3 months aggressive campaign to mobilize and educate citizens to ask critical questions of aspiring public office holders during the electioneering period has been activated which seeks to;

  1. To mobilize and educate citizens on ways to demand quality education from their aspiring office-holders during this electioneering period.

  2. To ensure a commitment to create and implement a policy that ensures that every girl has the right to a 12-year free, compulsory, and inclusive education in the focus states based on the education manifesto.

  3. To build the capacity of influencers on sustainable leadership, and technical skills to sustain the gains of girl-child education

This campaign seeks to promote accountability and transparency by documenting the commitments of politicians aspiring for offices and increasing citizens’ participation in development processes.
