The YHealth Bingwa Plus Initiative, implemented by YouthHubAfrica in partnership with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), is a groundbreaking program designed to strengthen youth leadership and participation in public health across Africa. The initiative empowers 50 young Africans aged 18–35 with practical knowledge and tools in project management, monitoring and evaluation, proposal writing, budgeting, and non-profit management—equipping them to design and implement impactful health interventions within their communities.
Through the YouthHub Academy, participants received intensive capacity-building training delivered through a series of interactive webinars and workshops. Following their training, participants pitched their health-focused ideas before an evaluation committee. Fifteen outstanding innovators were awarded mini-grants to implement their projects, addressing pressing community health challenges through creative, technology-driven, and sustainable approaches. YouthHubAfrica continued to provide mentorship and implementation support, ensuring that each grantee translated learning into real-world impact.
In addition to supporting young changemakers, the initiative also contributed to the successful launch and implementation of the Africa CDC Youth Engagement Strategy, a framework aimed at promoting meaningful youth inclusion in global health governance. YouthHubAfrica provided technical and logistical support for the launch, facilitated a co-creation workshop, and developed an impact report highlighting youth-driven contributions to the Africa CDC’s strategy.
By the end of the project, 50 young Africans were directly empowered, impacting an estimated 50,000 people indirectly through their community projects. The YHealth Bingwa Plus Initiative not only built a network of emerging health leaders but also set the foundation for stronger youth engagement in Africa’s public health ecosystem—driving progress toward a healthier, more resilient continent.
