Youth Foundation for Development, Education & Leadership (YouthhubAfrica) has built a networked community and  a platform for young people in Africa involved in social change to interact, learn and collaborate in new, creative and easy ways.

Online Strength

In 2011, YouthhubAfrica started as a blog profiling opportunities for young Africans including scholarships, conferences, workshops, news items, articles and events that can contribute to youth development. Over the last five years, the blog has grown to become one of the largest youth development platforms on the African continent reaching directly over 101,000 young Africans who have signed up on, and interact with our social media channels.

On the other hand, the Youth Foundation for Development, Education and Leadership which is the parent entity behind YouthhubAfrica has grown into a frontline youth advocacy and policy oriented organisation based in Abuja, Nigeria, but programming into Africa and beyond. We have worked with stakeholders to provide advisory and technical support for development communications, the use of social media to drive advocacy and campaigns as well as structuring youth engagements on a national and regional level.

With the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), for example, we collaborated on the #NoHoodieNoHoney project in 2013, where we reached 234,838 Twitter accounts with an exposure of 2,970. In 2016, we partnered with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) on the #DaSubjectMatter campaign where we reached 578,659 accounts on twitter with an exposure of 2,860,501. We are a member of the Globalgiving Platform, an online platform whose endorsement allows members to raise fund and also be funded. YouthhubAfrica also supported strongly the African Union’s Department of political Affairs in running its #Democratic Governance Trends (#DGTrends) Youth Consultations in Dakar, Nairobi and Kigali between 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Partnerships

YouthhubAfrica has a  Memorandum of Understanding with Africa Democratic Institute and the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to facilitate training and participation of the lawmakers in courses in leadership and governance at the African Democratic Institute South Africa. We also have  MoUs and partnership with Centre for Girls Education and the Malala Fund.

Other organisations we have collaborated with include the Population Council, Africa Youth Panel, UNFPA Gambia, World Bank Youth Forum and Junior Achievement Nigeria.

Our start-up programming has included our support  to run an essay and video competition using our popular Facebook platform as well as supporting the communications outreach for the youth discussions.
